Loneliness

‘Uzlah or loneliness means coming back to yourselves to protect yourselves from the world, from destruction, and anything which could push you toward forgetting god. This is why loneliness is important.

At the beginning of the revelation, when the prophet shallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam was starting his mission, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala told him something which is so essential;

وَاصْبِرْ عَلَى مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْراً جَمِيلاً

And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). (QS. Al-Muzzammil: 10).

Be patient with their attacks. Be patient with their insults. And exile yourselves from them with a beautiful exile. This is the very important thing; exile yourselves, exile your own hearts, coming back to your hearts, being far from what the people could say, and coming close to these intimacy with god.

So here we are, as muslim, when we are fasting, we have to experience this loneliness. We have to experience this dialogue and this relationship which we need to have with god. And it’s more than this, also to asses our behavior in the mystical tradition.

What we find in Islam is; it has to do with muraqabah. Self evaluation of who we are, what we are doing, and in which we are behaving. No one can do all these experiences for us except our own selves. We have to come back to ourselves. And why we are fasting during this month? This is something that we have to experience. What am I doing? What is the meaning of my life?

And we have to deal with all of those questions.

Through this experience of loneliness, be close to god, be alone with god. Because one day you will be alone. So, during our lives, we have to taste something that will cause faith in us. We have to experience something that will increase our faith. And we have to do real act to this.

We know that the prophet (peace be upon him), was crying when he was meditating and looking at nature. This is a very clear lesson  for us regarding how should we exile ourselves by looking the nature. Why? Because at that point we have signs coming back to our hearts. And this is the experience; we couldn’t  meditate over the nature if we don’t come back to ourselves do this loneliness with god.

Allahu ta’ala a’lam.
